Featured Snippet
A featured snippet is the boxed answer Google pulls to the top of results to directly answer a query, often read aloud by voice assistants.
A featured snippet is the highlighted answer box that appears above the regular results, lifted from a page Google judges best answers the question. It comes as a paragraph, list, or table. Winning the snippet — sometimes called position zero — can dramatically increase clicks and authority, because your answer is what the searcher sees first.
To earn snippets, answer the question clearly and early on the page, then support it with depth. Use the question as a heading, follow with a concise 40-to-60-word answer, and structure steps or comparisons cleanly. This same clarity now feeds AI overviews and answer engines, which extract direct answers the same way. Writing for the snippet is increasingly writing for the AI citation.
